Sweet Nothing by Jamie McGuire and Teresa Mummert ♡♡

Sweet Nothing by is a book the two authors, Jamie McGuire and Teresa Mummert, wrote together. I said I was done reading books by Jamie McGuire any more, but I took a chance any way.

The book tells the story of Avery, a hospital nurse, and Josh, an EMT which has a reputation for hooking up with all the nurses, we watch as they come together after a bad car accident.

So, there's not much I can really say about this book without spoiling, because what I really didn't like was the ending. It was very unexpected, but felt like such a cop out. I was very disappointed, and there was just no explanation.

Beautiful Sacrifice by Jamie McGuire ♡♡♡♡.5

Beautiful Sacrifice by Jamie McGuire is the third book in the Maddox Brothers series, which does not include Beautiful Disaster or Walking Disaster. If you are new to new adult, I recommend starting with Beautiful Disaster.

Beautiful Sacrifice tells the story of Taylor and Fayln. Fayln is trying to reconcile her past when Taylor Maddox walks into her life, and he's just what she needs. But Taylor's got it bad. And if you know one Maddox brother, you know they won't stop chasing a girl once they decide she's it for them.

I was extremely wary of Beautiful Sacrifice, because I did not enjoy Thomas's story Beautiful Redemption (I think he was a little too old, and I was expecting a new adult book, it felt more like a contemporary romance). But this book had almost all the magic and love that had me falling for those damn Maddox boys in the first place. This story was more somber than the others, and I did more crying than laughing, but it was worth every tear to witness Taylor and Fayln's story.

You could read this without reading any of the other books, but I would say read them all. Especially Beautiful Disaster. It's my favorite!

Blue Notes by Carrie Lofty ♥♥.5

Blue Notes by Carrie Lofty is a book that came up in my Goodreads recommendations. I really wanted to read it, partly because the book was compared to authors Jamie McGuire and S.C. Stephens (just the Thoughtless series, I didn't really enjoy the others I read), who I love. But I would have to say it did not really live up to such high standards.

Blue Notes is about piano prodigy and college student Keely. She’s starting her junior year at Tulane and she’s keeping a secret from everyone she knows. Especially from playboy billionaire Jude, who she meets at an open mic night.  They start a strange, tension filled relationship that may or may make it when Keely’s past, along with her close held secret, come back to haunt her.

Let’s talk about the good things first. Obviously, I really liked the idea of the story. Secrets that could ruin everything and a whirl wind romance are right up my alley. The book also had some really strong secondary characters, who I enjoyed spending time with.

But I had a really difficult time connecting with the main characters for most of the book. And being inside Keely’s head was a bit confusing at times. That may have been a stylistic choice since Keely herself is confused, but I found it unclear at times, which made it difficult to connect with Keely. And Jude was pretty much an arrogant ass for the first half of the book. He also felt the need to be in charge of everything, which made him feel overly domineering. I didn’t understand how someone with Keely’s past could be so attracted to someone with Jude’s personality. And then, halfway through the story, Jude becomes almost a completely different person. It was very strange.

Not connecting with the main characters is one of the hardest things for me to deal with when reading. I still wanted to know what was going to happen, but I didn’t fell their joy or pain. Carrie Lofty has a bunch of other books that aren’t New Adult, so I may give one of those a try. Let me know what you think!

Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire ♥♥♥♥.75

I have to admit, I was a bit apprehensive about Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire. I love love love Travis Maddox and Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster. I thought there was no way Trent and Cami’s story could be anywhere close to as amazing and Travis and Abby’s. I was so wrong, very happy, but still so wrong.

Cami already has a boyfriend, T.J., when the story starts. But she and Trent have known each other since they were kids. They’ve never been particularly good friends. , but all of a sudden Trent is spending all his free time with Cami, as friends, even though it’s obvious they both want more. And Cami can’t decide what to do about her situation.

I can’t say much without ruining something (particularly Cami’s decision). But this book surpassed everything I thought it would be. The story felt real on so many different levels. It was full of drama and secrets. And fully packed with love. Those Maddox boys know how to do love, and they do it in the biggest way possible. Is there somewhere I can get one for myself?

You don’t need to read Beautiful Disaster first, but I recommend that you do. The big secret at the end if this book really knocked me on my ass; I didn’t see it coming. But I feel like I should have. Those Maddox boys are the best kind of trouble. The secret left me with so many questions, and questioning a few different people. So read the book, and be prepared to fall in love with another Maddox.

Wrecked by Priscilla West ♥♥♥

Wrecked by Priscilla West has often been compared to Jamie McGuire’s Beautiful Disaster. I’m going to try really hard not to compare them. There are two reasons I don’t want to compare them. First, it’s not fair that just because both stories have hot fighters they get lumped together. Second, Hunter is no Travis Maddox. I will say that if you haven’t read Beautiful Disaster, or any of the rest of the series, you’re missing out. They are some of my favorite books. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk about Wrecked.

This is the story of Lorrie and Hunter. Lorrie is returning to college after taking three semesters off due to the murder of her mother and suicide of her father. She’s trying to live her life as normally as possible, but she’s not sure she can do that after she meets MMA fighter Hunter. And we watch the friendship turned romance of two broken people.

I really enjoyed this story. For the most part, it had everything that makes a good New Adult novel. But I felt like it was missing something, although I’m not sure what. I hadn’t read this before, but for the first half of the book, I had the feeling I had. I just didn’t feel much like reading the book, and that was disappointing. I didn’t feel connected to the characters. The book also had some grammar issues, which was distracting.

The book was enjoyable in the end. I just couldn’t really get into it. I would say give it a try. Just because I didn’t feel anything doesn’t mean you won’t. Feelings make books hard, because while I can see and appreciate Wrecked was a good story, if I don’t feel anything then I can’t love the book. Maybe you will:)
