Foreplay by Sophie Jordan ♥♥♥.5

I bought this book on a whim, despite the cover (which made the book seem as if it may be a little too steamy for me). But Sophie Jordan’s Foreplay was just what I needed after reading a book I didn’t enjoy.

Pepper is a who knows what she wants, 2.5 kids, a great job helping people, and her best friend’s brother, Hunter. And when Hunter finally breaks up with his girlfriend of two years, Pepper and her friends decide virgin Pepper may need a lesson or two on what guys want. The perfect role for Reece, a local bartender with a bit of a (mistaken) reputation.

As Pepper grows closer to Reece, she finds out he’s not the person she thought he was. She has to decide if she wants her dream guy or the guy who actually makes her feel something. To me, the decision was always clear.

The story has a lot of heart and emotion. Even as I was frustrated with Pepper, I felt for the pain that was her past, and how that affected her future decision making. Overall, I enjoyed the book, and I’m looking forward to reading more of the series once it comes out.

Definitely, Maybe in Love by Ophelia London ♥♥♥♥

Definitely, Maybe in Love by Ophelia London was a good read I got for a low price. And lucky for you, it has a very simple summary. Have you read Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice? Yes? Then you already know the story, although there are a few changes. Haven’t read it? What are you waiting for? Go read it!

For those of you who haven’t read it, I’ll give you some information without all the spoilers that come from having read the original.  Spring is pretty much a liberal hippie (and vegetarian, of course) working on a thesis like project for her major. Henry, a conservative lawyer type, moves in across the street. Henry happens to be what Spring needs to get a good grade on her project. Now, I’m not going to spoil anything, but their two very different worlds collide in a big way.

I really enjoyed reading this story. Having already read Pride and Prejudice, I found the story a little difficult to get through. I was continually trying to figure out how this story lined up with the original. So, if you read this story, try to put the Elizabeth out of your mind. This is Spring’s story, and it has merit on its own. This was a great adaptation, but also a lovely, timeless story on its own. If you get the chance, give the book a read Henry is a great Mr. Darcy. You will fall in love him, and you will fall in love with their story.

Wrecked by Priscilla West ♥♥♥

Wrecked by Priscilla West has often been compared to Jamie McGuire’s Beautiful Disaster. I’m going to try really hard not to compare them. There are two reasons I don’t want to compare them. First, it’s not fair that just because both stories have hot fighters they get lumped together. Second, Hunter is no Travis Maddox. I will say that if you haven’t read Beautiful Disaster, or any of the rest of the series, you’re missing out. They are some of my favorite books. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk about Wrecked.

This is the story of Lorrie and Hunter. Lorrie is returning to college after taking three semesters off due to the murder of her mother and suicide of her father. She’s trying to live her life as normally as possible, but she’s not sure she can do that after she meets MMA fighter Hunter. And we watch the friendship turned romance of two broken people.

I really enjoyed this story. For the most part, it had everything that makes a good New Adult novel. But I felt like it was missing something, although I’m not sure what. I hadn’t read this before, but for the first half of the book, I had the feeling I had. I just didn’t feel much like reading the book, and that was disappointing. I didn’t feel connected to the characters. The book also had some grammar issues, which was distracting.

The book was enjoyable in the end. I just couldn’t really get into it. I would say give it a try. Just because I didn’t feel anything doesn’t mean you won’t. Feelings make books hard, because while I can see and appreciate Wrecked was a good story, if I don’t feel anything then I can’t love the book. Maybe you will:)

Whisper to Me by Christina Lee ♥♥♥♥.5

Whisper to Me is the third book in Christina Lee’s Between Breaths series. I really enjoyed the other books in this series, and Rachel and Kai’s story was no exception.

Kai was with Rachel all through Rachel’s recovery after a motorcycle accident in high school. They were close until they went separate ways for college. But now they’re back in each others' lives, living at Kai’s sister’s apartment for the summer. And the two decide to hook up for the summer. But neither knows what the other really wants, and Rachel’s not even sure what she wants for herself.

The story is beautiful and heart wrenching. I never was really sure where the story was going to end up. I was never sure if Kai and Rachel would work out. The story really kept me guessing about the summer was going to end.

All in all I really enjoyed the story, just like I have the previous stories, and hopefully the way I will enjoy the stories to come. It was great to see some diversity too. Kai is Dutch and Native American, and I know we don’t see many multicultural characters in books. I was really happy to see that. And he was super hot.

So, start with the first if you haven’t read the series. But give it a go. The books are great.

All Lined Up by Cora Carmack ♥♥♥♥

All Lined Up by Cora Carmack is the first book in her Rusk University series. And it was great. I’m not a fan of football, but I wouldn’t hold anything against those players, especially if they’re anything like Carson.

All Lined Up is Dallas and Carson’s story. Dallas is a dance major, her dad is the University’s football coach, and she’s sworn off the players. Carson is a second string QB working hard to move up so he can get a scholarship. He doesn’t want any distractions. But neither gets what they want as Dallas falls for a football player, and Carson gets his distraction.

I thought this was a great story about facing your fears and growing up. Carson is figuring out how to handle having something good in his life even with the pressure to succeed. Dallas has to deal with her dad and their issues, as well as learn how to fight for what she’s always wanted. I really enjoyed the POV change, which allowed us to get both sides of the story all at once. Losing It is still my favorite book by Cora Carmack, but this one was fun. I’m looking forward to seeing more books in this series.
