My Soul to Keep by Kennedy Ryan ♡♡♡♡.5

My Soul to Keep (Soul, #1)
My Soul to Keep by Kennedy Ryan is a book I found out about when it was on sale through BookBub. I've never read any of her other books, but this one caught my eye, and I'm so glad I picked it up.

My Soul to Keep tells the story of Kai, a small town, Georgia girl trying to make it in LA after the death of her mother. Her world starts spinning again when she meets world famous musician Rhyson. We watch as Kai tries to navigate life after losing her mother and the intricacies of being linked to a super star.

There were so many things I loved about this story. The writing was so poetic, I easily connected with the characters, and from the opening lines, Kai had such a distinct voice (when I read it, I could hear her accent, no dialect necessary!). The characters also felt realistic to what people in their positions might be like.

The story does end with a bit of a cliffhanger, but I cannot wait to read the next story.

Eversea by Natasha Boyd ♡♡♡

Eversea (Eversea, #1)Eversea by Natasha Boyd is a book I first saw when it was on sale through BookBub. I picked up the book because of the compelling premise. I like stories about a famous person going to a small town and falling for someone who lives there.

That is exactly what happens in Eversea. Kerri Ann lives in a small town as a waitress working to help restore her family home. Jack, a famous actor, comes to town and falls for her immediately. They have quite the tumultuous time of things.

I enjoyed watching Kerri Ann try and figure out who she was and what she wanted for her life, and whether that life can include Jack.

This was a gripping story that kept me reading. I wanted to know what was going to happen, and what decisions Kerri Ann would make. I also loved the genuine Southern setting. Natasha Boyd really captures what it's like to live in the South. And I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I bought it as soon as I finished the first.

Has anyone else read this book? What did you think?

Inspire by Cora Carmack ♥♥♥

Inspire (The Muse, #1)Inspire by Cora Carmack is her first paranormal new adult book. I have really enjoyed many of her past books, and this book was no different.

This book tells the story of muse Kalli. She has spent thousands of years inspiring artists. But she falls for a business guy, Wilder, who, it turns out, is actually an artist too.

Kalli doesn't know how to handle the fact that Wilder is an artist, or her immortality in the face of her desire to be with Wilder.

I really enjoyed getting both sides of the story from Wilder and Kalli. And the story itself was great. I didn't realize until the end of the book that it would be part of a series that focused on the same characters, so I didn't think we get to know Kalli very well. I just didn't feel connected to her as a character because so much of her was a mystery. But I'm hoping as the series continues, we will get to know her better.

I am very interested to see where this story is going and getting to know Kalli and Wilder better. And it's always nice to see more paranormal NA. Has anyone else read this yet? What did you think?

Dark Sacrifice by Angie Sandro ♥♥♥♥.5

Dark SacrificeLet me start by saying Dark Sacrifice by Angie Sandro was pretty amazing. She really seems to have found herself as a writer in this book. Dark Paradise, the first book in the Dark Paradise series, was good, but Dark Sacrifice was a full throttle thriller.

So, if you haven’t read Dark Paradise, then this review is not for you. A few things from the first book will be spoiled if you read any farther.

*************************Spoiler Alert ************************************

Dark Sacrifice picks up about where Dark Paradise left off. Mala’s still in the psych ward, soon to be released. And Landry’s in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. Mala’s still seeing ghosts, including her mother. And Landry has an overwhelming sense of guilt for putting Mala in danger; he’s willing to do anything to protect her. But Landry’s not sure he will be in Mala’s good graces if he ever gets out of jail.

And Mala still has a promise to keep to her Aunt Magnolia, one she knows may come at a price.

I don’t want to give too much away, but Angie Sandro takes us on an adventure packed with ghosts, curses, and magic as Mala tries to keep her promise to be trained by her dark magic loving aunt. Some pretty amazing stuff ensues.

If you enjoyed Dark Paradise then you will love Dark Sacrifice. It’s a face paced page turner. Let me know what you think. And if you're looking for book three, Dark Redemption is already available.

Second Chance Boyfriend by Monica Murphy ♥♥♥♥.5

Second Chance Boyfriend by Monica Murphy was even better than her first book, One Week Girlfriend. If you’ve been reading the blog before, then you know how much I love a fake relationship story, but with the sequel we get so much more. One Week Girlfriend ended on a bit of a cliff hanger, and it was great to see how things were resolved.

In Second Chance Boyfriend we continue Fable and Drew’s story. We see Drew struggle with the secret Adele told him in the first book, although he is getting help. We see Fable really dealing with her mom and the sacrifices Fable’s making as she raises her brother and takes care of her family. We also get some insight into Adele (although I didn’t really enjoy that part as much).

As Drew and Fable work through what is means to be a couple, they also have to work through what it means for them to really trust each other and be there for each other. No spoilers, but what they have together is beautiful.

This book was such a rollercoaster ride. Just when I thought things were looking up they would come crashing down. And when things were bad we were quickly soaring again. Adele played a big role in making the story what it was.

So, read One Week Girlfriend so you can read this book. It was so great, and it gave much more depth to Fable and Drew. We get to know them better in this book, and it was amazing to see them come into their own as a couple. Now I just need to read the rest of Monica Murphy’s books! I know I didn’t say too much about the book, but I don’t want to spoil too much, and so much was spoilable. :)

One Week Girlfriend by Monica Murphy ♥♥♥♥

For some reason, I really love stories that start off with a couple with a couple who is pretending to be a couple under some pretense or another. This is obviously the premise of One Week Girlfriend by Monica Murphy. Something about all the pretending makes it all the more satisfying when out couple, Drew and Fable, finally fall for each other.

In One Week Girlfriend, Fable is a college dropout working at a local college bar to make enough money to help take care of her younger brother. Drew is a star football player at the local college. Drew hires Fable to be his girlfriend over Thanksgiving break since he is dealing with some things at home he is hoping his family won’t bring up with a stranger around.

Things go downhill pretty fast as we find out that Drew has all kinds of secrets bottled up just waiting to seep out, and his family is not willing to keep between them. And as he and Fable grow closer he’s not sure he wants to keep them to himself anymore. But the more secrets that come out, the more he tries to push her away, and we quickly learn that some of his past is a bit disturbing.

I thought this was a very good story, much better than I expected (you can only trust Goodreads ratings so much). I enjoyed having the story told from both Drew and Fable’s point of view. It gave us a really good look into what was going on in both character’s mind.

Even though the story was good we were left on a bit of a cliffhanger. There are more books, but the first book was fairly short (177 pages). I thought the book could have just been longer. I haven’t read the second book, although it is longer (210 pages) so maybe that’s the reason for the cliffhanger. We’ll see how Fable and Drew fair in book two, Second Chance Boyfriend.
