Whisper to Me by Christina Lee ♥♥♥♥.5

Whisper to Me is the third book in Christina Lee’s Between Breaths series. I really enjoyed the other books in this series, and Rachel and Kai’s story was no exception.

Kai was with Rachel all through Rachel’s recovery after a motorcycle accident in high school. They were close until they went separate ways for college. But now they’re back in each others' lives, living at Kai’s sister’s apartment for the summer. And the two decide to hook up for the summer. But neither knows what the other really wants, and Rachel’s not even sure what she wants for herself.

The story is beautiful and heart wrenching. I never was really sure where the story was going to end up. I was never sure if Kai and Rachel would work out. The story really kept me guessing about the summer was going to end.

All in all I really enjoyed the story, just like I have the previous stories, and hopefully the way I will enjoy the stories to come. It was great to see some diversity too. Kai is Dutch and Native American, and I know we don’t see many multicultural characters in books. I was really happy to see that. And he was super hot.

So, start with the first if you haven’t read the series. But give it a go. The books are great.

If Only by AJ Pine ♥♥♥.5

A few weeks before I read this book, quite a few authors on Twitter were talking about If Only by AJ Pine. I’m not sure if the book had just come out (although I expect it had). I needed something to read. And Twitter had the answers to my prayers.

If Only is the story of Jordan’s school year in Aberdeen. She meets two American boys on the train from London. She meets Griffin first, who flirts mercilessly. Then she meets Noah, with whom she meets in the train compartment to the bathroom, and they end up doing some serious kissing.  That kiss from Noah causes Jordan to fall hard, but she gets to Aberdeen to find out that Noah has a girlfriend. So, Jordan and Griffin decide to have a go at being together just for fun. But Noah obviously still has feelings for Jordan. And we watch the mess that are these relationships unfold.

I enjoyed reading this book. You could tell the author had really been to Aberdeen, and her writing made me feel like I was there too. It’s not often I see a New Adult book that has so much traveling, and I really enjoyed it.

The relationships also felt real. We not only see how Jordan interacts with Noah and Griffin, but also with her best friend, Sam, who is back home in the states. She also makes another friend in Aberdeen. So it’s not all boys.

The most disappointing part of the book was that Jordan picked two American boys. When I read about a girl meeting guys in another country, I hope she will have the good sense to meet some cute foreign boys with sexy accents. Preferably British accents. But I can’t hold it against the author too much.

Overall, I really did like this story. The writing was so beautiful. Perhaps AJ Pine spends her spare time with Gatsby. This was a great debut novel, and I’m looking forward to more.

Seeking Her by Cora Carmack ♥♥♥

Let me start by saying, I really love Cora Carmack’s writing. She is so funny, and puts her characters in the most awkward situations, which makes for some really great stories! I’m sorry to say, Seeking Her fell a bit short of my expectations.

Seeking Her is a novella to along with the book Finding It, which I rather enjoyed and you should definitely read before Seeking Her. Our books gives a bit of Jackson and Kelsey’s story, from Jackson’s perspective, but it really only tells the story up to the point where Kelsey and Jackson start to get to know each other, then it’s over. Of course, if you’ve read Finding It, then you know what happens after this, but I thought there would be more. We do get some good background on Jackson, but that’s really it. And the tone was much more serious than any of Cora’s other books.

I’m glad I read the book, but I also think we could have been given all the new stuff we get during some added conversations during Finding It. When I read a novella I want enough new information to make it worth reading. And I don’t think Seeking Her did that.  

The book still gets 3 ♥s though because the writing is great and we do get to know Jackson, especially his motivation for things I won’t mention in case you haven’t read Finding It. If you have read it then you know what I’m talking about, because you already know his biggest secret.

I recommend reading any of the other books in the Losing it series. The books are funny with the right amount of seriousness when needed. Start with Losing It, which is my favorite, and I don’t think you will be sorry you did. And I’m really looking forward to Cora’s next series, Rusk University, the first of which is due out May 13^th. I’ve already preordered my copy!
